中国污水处理在经过多年的由分散到集中的过渡之后，过度集中造成的问题也逐步凸显。也许，正如一些专家所指出的，在污水处理方式集中与分散选择的问题上，我们应该多些思考，而不是盲目地采用集中处理方式。

Ottawa and Halifax are still using ancient Rome-era methods of "treating" human waste.
Halifax is on the way to a vast improvement,but Ottawa lags far behind. The smoke screen of blaming street debrisfor the cause of our beach closures is now exposed.

Technologyof the 21st century makes the proper treatment to the degree that thedischarge is "swimming pool quality water." This type of treatmentpermits discharge into extremely sensitive bodies of water such as theRideau River, with an improvement to the receiving watercourse.Why then does Ottawa still add to the burden of an overloadedRobert O. Pickard Environment Centre's system by continual extension ofthe stressed city collector infrastructure? Is it not time to put someof the eggs into a better-diversified basket?
The distance some of the waste has to be piped to this environmentcentre is over 60 kilometres, when an on-site treatment could be muchcheaper, safer and better.
The West Kanata-Stittsville area is one example and the expandingareas of Barrhaven-Manotick are another where proven 25-year-oldtechnology could save our taxes now and in the maintenance future.
Our city engineers need to be brought into the present and notallowed to stand on the past methods of 2,000-year-old "experience."
